Kilian Jornet – Jakob Herrmann hit the jackpot

Kilian Jornet – Jakob Herrmann have hit the jackpot. Not only by winning the third stage as well, but most importantly by replacing the pair from the Italian Alpine corps, Michele Boscacci – Robert Antonioli, at the top of the provisional overall rankings. In the women’s race Katia Tomatis – Axelle Mollaret chalked up their third victory, guaranteeing them first place overall. And just a reminder: as of today, the junior and cadet categories are also racing.

This third stage of the Pierra proved to be really spectacular. For the occasion the organisers had prepared a course with 2,450 m of elevation gain spread over 5 different climbs. A course that literally exalted the prowess of the Austro-Catalan duo and spurred them on to victory: Jornet – Hermann won with a comfortable lead of more than 3’ over Boscacci - Antonioli, making them the overall leaders of the Pierra with a 2’38” gap over their Italian rivals. Barring last-minute surprises, the chances of the result being overturned on the last stage are extremely slim.

2h29’24” was the winning time, and 2h32’52” that of the Italians. Third and by now with no chance of winning, the French pair Xavier Gachet – William Bon Mardion.

In the women’s race, yet another victory – making it three in a row - for Katia Tomatis and Axelle Mollaret. According to the overall classification, the 33rd edition of the super classic French race is already theirs for the taking. Mireia Mirò and Marta Garcia Farres remain in third place.

PIERRA MENTA JEUNES – First day of racing for the youth categories as well. In the junior race, victory went predictably to the Italian girls Giulia Murada - Giorgia Felicetti. The youngsters, one from Valtellina and the other from the Trentino region, showed who was boss by inflicting a lead of over six minutes over the French pair Justine Tonso and Marie Pollet-villard. Third place went to Florence Buchs and Emilie Farquet. In the boys’ race, stage victory went to Arthur Blanc from France who for this event was teamed up with Julien Ançay from Switzerland. In the Cadet category, the winners were Alix Trinquier and Remy Garcin in front of Luca Tomasoni - Alessandro Rossi, third Tobias Donnet – Maxime Trobet. In the girls’ Cadet category, victory went to Madeline Paillard from France and her teammate from Andorra, Andrea Sinfreu Alduncin. In second place were Erika Sanelli – Anna Folini, while Silvia Berra – Nicole Valli came third.
